A case that circulates throughout Turkish social media, two young men appear proudly next to a shrunken dog with bloody graves for ears, each man holding a dog's ear in his hand.

According to the Turkish news, the couple is suspected of being involved in a hunting fight and reportedly punished the dog that lost the fight.

The Turkish justice system now leaves men with a fine of one equivalent to $ 1,000 of US dollars. And no prison time.

This light punishment is not acceptable, in view of the irreproachable damage caused by young people.

The light sentence of paying $ 1000 does not even come close to the pain and suffering inflicted on an innocent animal - let alone the dogs forced to tear themselves into human entertainment fights.

Animals are not toys. They are not property. They have thoughts and feelings, as backed up by research that shows dogs are as sensitive as a human child. In addition, cruelty to animals is irrefutably linked to cruelty to humans.

This incident of grossly inhumane treatment highlights the urgent need for the Turkish government to revisit its animal cruelty laws. Someone who commits atrocities with animals is also passive of committing to humans. Research has shown that all psychopathic killers killed animals with no remorse or regret.

Leaving these people to commit crimes against animals and not to punish for their acts is the same as giving carte blanche to commit more serious crimes, including with human beings.

Rights of animals

The rights of animals must be maintained, just as we have feelings and also feel pain. Committing acts of cruelty to animals is the same as saying that mankind is regressing, it is getting worse over time.

More severe and harsh laws are needed for those committing such violence. Prison is the minimum punishment that we must implement in society today, but it happens that people who comment on crimes against animals simply pay a small amount and are free of their acts, not suffering any kind of punishment.

We can see clearly what will happen to humanity if we keep closing our eyes to these types of situations, we will create more and more adolescent and young monsters who do not care about anything and anyone.

I do not want to say that the world will change from day to night, but to avoid a major catastrophe we will have to rethink the way the world is today. A single person does not change the whole world, but it is with small attitudes that we will transform the place in which we live.
